What You See at a Buffet

I am sure all of you have gone out to eat at a buffet, at one time or the other. Buffets are great because they give you a wide variety of food at a great price. Oh yes, you can eat all you want.

There are some buffets I have gone to where all the people dining were over weight. You could tell they hung out at that particular buffet for the sole purpose of being part of the large percentage of our population who is obese.

I have walked into some buffets where you see a good mixture of overweight, regular and super thin folks dinning. These are the buffets I try to attend because I know they will provide healthy food options. Continue reading

Idaho Writers and Reader Rendezvous

Everybody has a story. This week my story took place on May 3, 4, 5 of this year. The setting was a The Center in downtown Boise, Idaho.

My wife and I was took time off of work, to attend the 1st Annual Idaho Writers and Readers Rendezvous.  Our expectation was go to learn something more about writing. In addition, we wanted to get to know more Northwest writers on a personal level.  I can tell you here and now that expectation was met and then much much more. Continue reading

Experiencing Idaho

I tell just about everyone who will listen about how I first came to Idaho. It was originally for a short  visit. Six months later I moved here. That was over fifteen years ago.

What impressed me so greatly that I want to live here? What made me want to move away from my life long home in the central coast region of California? Why have I stayed and been happier than I have ever been in my life?

The answer to all of those questions can be summed up into one word. That word is IDAHO. I people the culture, the pace, and lifestyle makes it all so attractive. Continue reading

A Glorious Saturday

This past Saturday was the first real sign of summer coming. The running the Idaho’s most popular foot race, Robbie Creek. It is considered the toughest half marathon, by many.

Since I am not a runner, I passed on going to the Robbie Creek race. Instead, I climbed on my little old 21 speed mountain bike and headed to downtown Boise.

My Google calendar alerted me to the fact, Saturday, April 21st was the opening of the Capitol City Market. This is one event I have been missing. Since they started the market back up I wanted to be there. Continue reading

Living the Dream

It was a couple of years back, I asked this IT guy how he was doing? His response to me was “Living the Dream”.

I may of have heard the response before, but that was the first time it really stuck with me. It has been almost sixteen years since I moved to Boise Idaho. Ever since then I have grow to love and enjoy the quality of life the Great Northwest has to offer.

I can not say I have had all good experiences since I have moved here, but that has been some really great experiences that I will never forget. It was a Sunday morning walk on a beautiful summer morning when I was walking through Ann Morrison Park where I met my soul mate/my  wife. Continue reading

Paralized with Fear

It was eleven years ago this month when I was standing at the bottom of a twenty foot power pole looking up. I was to climb half way on a ladder, then the rest of the way with metal spikes sticking out from the pole. Once I was to reach the top, I was to stand up, and step over to the next pole. Finally, I was to jump off the second pole into a net.

Needless to say I got to the top of the ladder when I became paralyzed with fear. My hands were sweating. My heart was pounding so hard. All reasonable thoughts had left me. I thought I was going to fall to the ground and die. It seem like I was stuck in that position for hours. Finally, I slowly crawled back down the ladder. Continue reading

Moses and His Coffee

The brisk morning air filters into the large tent where Moses and his wife sleep. Moses’ eyes slowly open to see his wife still asleep. Moses Rolls over, to get up. He knows as soon as he rises out of the bed his wife will be awake. It won’t be long before she will be climbing out of the bed herself.

Out of the bed and dressed Moses walks out of the tent. The morning sun starts to rise over the distant hills creating varying shades of tan across the landscape. In the Sinai desert all there is a mixture of tan rocks covered by sand. The morning sun and the chill from the night  air makes it feel so fresh and new. Continue reading

Hunger for the Hunger Games

Call me cheap, I like to wait for a movie to come out at RedBox or Netflix before I will watch it. It has to be a really exciting movie before I will even consider spending big money to go the theater and watch it.

Now when it comes to reading a book and then watching a movie, I have build some prejudice over the years. I have read so many books, and then saw the movie. Afterwards I felt so ripped off, I want to get my money back.

When I found out that my eleven year old daughter was reading a book titled, “The Hunger Games” I got concerned. I got concerned about the leader at theBoys and Girls Club  when I  found out my daughter was reading the book titled The Hunger Games. It was part of their book reading program. As a good parent I decided I had better read the book myself. Continue reading

There is a New Grocery Store in Town

Look out Idaho! Look out Treasure Valley there is a new Grocery Store in town. When big chain stores like Albertsons, Wal Mart and Winco are fighting for your food dollar, along comes Rosaurs. They put a store in the middle of the Treasure Valley. You can find a better location than the southwest corner of Eagle Rd and Ustick Rd.

I had the honor of attending its grand opening on Wednesday March 21st. It was an overcast day. Still who would of have thought there would be so many people in attendance. If it was a Friday or Saturday I could understand the large crowd, but on a Wednesday?

The executives of Rosaurs had it right. I saw an ample cross section of the Treasure Valley represented at the grand opening. Twenty somethings were exploring the offering of Rosaurs along with older gray haired couples. Channel 6 and Channel 7 news crews were even covering the event. Continue reading

Idaho Sportsman Show 2012

I do believe the Idaho Sportman Show is one of the top five events in Idaho. My proof is in the evidence. The evidence is the massive number of people who visit the Western Idaho Fairgrounds during this four day event.

This year I thought it would be great for my family and I visit The Sportsman Show on Saturday morning. The Saturday’s show opens at 11AM. We drove by the front gate to observe a line from the exhibition halls entrance to the front gate. Continue reading
